The Car That Made the Google Street Level Images

immersive1.jpg The images used by Google for their street-level images that I wrote about earlier are taken by a company called Immersive Media. PR. Differently has a post with pictures of the 11-sided camera and car that took the pictures.

Google and Dreams

Randall, author of xkcd, has blogged about a keyboard he made that has no keys that can interrupt the OS while typing.  He plans on trying to type in his dreams.  When he has dreams, he sometimes realizes it and is able to interact with it.  Reading about it reminded me of the time I realized that if Google stopped working right, I might accidentally kill myself.

In my dream, I looked at a clock, and it was blinking twelve.  I really wanted to know the time, so I started looking for other things with clocks.  No two agreed, and I was starting to panic, since I really needed to know the time for some reason.   Finally, I went to Google and searched for “current time”.  Up popped a list of results, including Time Magazine and currenttimes.com, which looked to be a celebrity gossip site.  I knew that some sort of atomic clock page would be in the top ten, and when I didn’t see it, and realized was dreaming.  Since I knew I was dreaming, I thought “I should go downstairs and jump through the plate glass window!  It will be fun!”

When I woke up and thought about it I realized that I made the decision to jump through the window based solely on the fact that Google gave me bad results.  Luckily, Google never fails, and the window in my room isn’t followed by a 20-story drop like it was in the dream.

Google Maps is Officially Awesome

And yes, I know they stole it from Live Local, but this interface is nicer and they have more areas imaged.

Wikihow is not always the best place to get advice…

Dustin posted a great example of bad advice on his blog today.

I’ve been looking for others by using the random article page, but I’ve only been able to find really stupid articles, not ones that actually give you bad advice.

Zombie Risk

I figured it was about time to move this from my WMU account where I posted the rules a few years ago.

Zombie Risk is a variation of Risk’s rules by Eric Thompson, Jon Anderson, and Matthew Sorrels.

ZOMBIES, RUN!!!! That’s right, zombies have begun to take over and there really isn’t anything for the human race to do but run. As a world leader, your goal is to promote peace between your neighbors while at the same time secretly hoping that those flesh-eating monsters will turn their sights on them first. The objective, protect your legacy! Your only goal, be the last to survive.

Learn it. Love it. Ph43r it. (Not available in stores. Some modification may be required to your Risk playing set. We are not responsible for any actual harm to the players, nor a Zombie attack. We did warn you.)

Rules after the jump. (more…)

Guest Bloggers

AT AT the Playground - Casey Weldon Just so you know, a few posts have been made by Dustin and Hal. Although you can tell this when you read through the jonathanryan.org page, it doesn’t show up when Facebook grabs them, and it looks a little confusing.

Hal, Dustin - You need to post starting with things like “Hal says:” or something.

Pic unrelated.

Repentance

Alright, so my last post sucked. This one will be better, I promise!

Dustin filled his post with link spam, so maybe I should do the same?

Nah. Jon trumped that with Line Rider Mario. So maybe I should link up to a video? Or two?

Hmm.

This little video proves that all of life’s little troubles are caused by a man with silly little streamers.

Guest Blogger @ jonathanryan.org

I’m Dustin, the guest blogger for the moment, and if you’re looking for some of my other work (including the amazing javascript resume and the crazy cardboard box computer), then I encourage you to visit the virtual roadside and check out some of my stuff.

Ok, I’m done with the self-promotion for the moment now. Theres not really anything useful that can be said at this time, so go ahead and visit the WikiKiwi and read about my mom!

That was totally pointless.
